The San Francisco 49ers are a full touchdown favorite this Sunday as they play host to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Title Game in Santa Clara, California.
The Niners were the most impressive of the four winning teams last weekend in the divisional round, as they dispatched the Minnesota Vikings by 17 points, winning 27-10.
If you use a William Hill promo code you can see that the Niners are a heavy favorite for this NFC Title game showdown between these two proud teams.
Earlier this season the Niners dominated the Packers in a prime time game on week 12. That night they got to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense was no match for an inspired Niners defense that beat up the Packers all night long.
Today with the battle to get to the Super Bowl closing in, we give three keys to a Niners win as they look to get to their first Super Bowl since the famous ‘Harbaugh Bowl’ back during the 2013 season.
1. Get Jimmy G Comfortable Early
The Niners quarterback was in a comfort zone during the win at home over the Vikings, and his ability to do play-action was a key in the big win over Minnesota.
Things likely won’t be as easy against the Packers, who will try to blitz Garoppolo and force him into mistakes and turnovers.
Against the Vikings the Niners only had to throw the ball 19 times, with Garoppolo completing 11 of the 19 passes for 131 yards, one score and a pick.
He’s got to be careful and give the Niners some early momentum and not force the ball despite at times seeing things open downfield .
2. Push Up on the Packers Receivers
Last week against the Seahawks the Packers were able to exploit the coverage by the Hawks, and Davante Adams had a big afternoon catching the ball and making plays.
In the first meeting the 49ers seconds played excellent, with Richard Sherman and company holding down the Packers wide outs, and not allowing them to get free down the field.
They will need a repeat effort on Sunday, as Adams is going to look to break free and even try for YAC (yards after catch), but if there’s one way to make sure the Packers pass catchers don’t get going, it’s by putting pressure on Aaron Rodgers and the Pack offensive line.
Sherman has spoken all week about being up for the challenge of this game, and there’s a quiet confidence about him that tells you that the Niners secondary is going to come out fired up for this battle for the right to go to the Super Bowl.
3. Avoid the Careless Mistakes
Things tend to get tighter when it comes to playing in big games, and young teams at times try to hard to make something happen, which could be the case here with the Niners.
Rodgers has been in plenty of these games before, while Garoppolo has the experience of watching Tom Brady, he’s never had to perform in a game with this much pressure.
That’s why he’s got to play within himself, and take on the leadership role to show why the Niners put all their eggs in Jimmy’s basket two seasons ago.
The young players for the Niners have a great shot to make a big impact, but they’ve got to play within themselves and not make careless mistakes.
