I thought the whistle always ended the play when it comes to a fumble.And I also thought that a whistle does not determine forward progress. So how can forward progress determine a fumble if a whistle hasn’t blown to end the play?
On the replay I thought the whistle came in late, well after the ball was loose.
And I’m not even a San Fran fan.

The rule doesn’t make sense.

Just a pro-tip for the bitter jcj above – You are allowed to go out of bounds on a kickoff return and recover the ball if you are not the first to touch the ball after re-establishing yourself in play.

Since it bounced off William’s knee(after Thomas was back in bounds), Thomas was second to touch the ball. If it had NOT bounced off William’s knee, it probably would have been a penalty on the Giants.

Football 101. Please learn the game rules before you complain that coaches should be fired for incompetence.

JCJ writes: 49ers first fumble off Williams foot should have been a dead ball the moment NY Giants #15 Devin Thomas touched the ball. The #15 went way out of bounds and came back on the field to make the play, ie pick up the ball and run. He was ineligible to participate in the play once he went out of bounds and the ball should have been whistled dead at the point Thomas touched it. The announcers had to see it in the replay. Just more evidence of how useless the Fox network is. The call on the field was right…the ball hit Williams leg, but Harbaugh should have challenged the call giving the ball to the Giants. If that play was called right, then no Giants touchdown, no overtime, 49ers win. I tweeted same to Troy Aikmen during the extensive replays and reviews but he ignored the data. Typical for Fox network. Any coach that does not have someone outside the stadium watching every game game on TV next year should be fired for incompetence.

all these three “GoofBags” did was praise the 49ers. Seriously, Do they really think the pre-season game mattered. All of the Saints broadcasters talk about how much they fear going on the road..it’s true the Saints have never won a playoff road game..showing that the Saints are going to have to do something “Historic”. My prediction is we shut down the running game and all the Saints can do is Pass..Brees then is forced into throwing interceptions.
How did these three get Jobs…it’s safe to Say that they are just volunteers. it looks like it’s been recorded in one of their own homes with a video phone.

Fool, 49ers organization tried for year’s to work a new statium deal within SF. The city itself were being impossible to work a deal. They need a new statium without a doubt! The Organization did what they had to do. SO you can shut your mouth and stop being a hater.

Patrick Willis is hands down the #1 middle linebacker in the NFL. To rank him at #2 is a joke especially considering he is ranked behind Ray Lewis. Ya Lewis was a great mlb a few years ago and is still productive today but if were talking right now he cant touch Willis. Its not even close. Willis is not only a great tackler who has led the league in the category since entering the league but he can pass defend as well and has been covering te’s more in man coverage since navarrow bowman has become a monster in his own right in the middle. Not only that but willis forces turnovers on a regular basis with his uncanny ability to punch the ball out of the possessors hands. With his blazing 4.38 40 speed he can make tackles that Lewis wouldn’t even dream of because he can go from sideline to sideline and his radius of ground coverage is so much larger. If u wanna say best on the field defensive coach or maybe best motivator then ya you could probably give Lewis the nod but skill alone there isn’t any comparison.

They SF niners now should be the Santa clara niners. They left SF. They should leave the SF out of thier name. I live in SF. I will never go to Santa clara for a game. Most people in SF will not go that far for a city that stole our football team. I’m so over the politics of EDDY & Joe buying up all the realestate surrounding the park, just to make fat cats richer. Now I’m understanding the occupy 99%. screw the people & make the rich wealthier. I now just hate the Santa Clara Niners.( traitors)
