New Niners Coach Kyle Shanahan To Serve As Own Offensive Coordinator

Newly-hired 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan plans to serve as his own offensive coordinator according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

According to RapSheet, Shanahan’s plan is to have QBs coach Rich Scangarello and run-game “guru” Mike McDaniel be his top assistants to help him with the offense- an interesting plan considering that neither man has yet been hired by the 49ers.

It is not a complete novelty for head coaches to call their own plays but it is notable nonetheless, especially for a rookie head coach who needs to spend most of his time and energy rebuilding one of the worst teams in the entire NFL. Shanahan has a lot on his plate and could be setting himself up for failure.
