In 2012, the San Francisco 49ers spent a 2nd-round pick on running back LaMichael James. Since coming into the league, the former Oregon star has had little success on the big stage of the National Football League. This is making people believe James will not find himself wearing a 49ers jersey next September.
Sources say that James could find himself on the trading block this summer but offers are presumed to not be much. James is a small, quick back that does not bode well in a power-run scheme that the 49ers are committed to keep. During the 2013 season, James was almost never on the field but remained the return man on special teams.
The 49ers also have high hopes of Marcus Lattimore returning in 2014. Lattimore spent the entire 2013 season on IR after being drafted but suffered another bad knee injury in his senior year at South Carolina.
In reality, things are not looking good for James. If the 49ers can not dish him off, they could be tempted to cutting the running back after training camp barring they find another return man. From there, James would be a free agent and a market would likely open up.
