Jim Harbaugh was not amused when asked what he thought about his name being linked to the University of Texas head coaching job.
“Are you trying to be funny?” Harbaugh said. “I don’t ever talk about any job other than the one I have.”
Harbaugh is in the third year of a five-year, 25 million dollar contract he signed with the 49ers in 2011. He has gone 33-11-1 since taking over and has also won three playoff games thus far. The thought that he would leave one of the most talented rosters in the NFL to go back to college is…well…ridiculous.
That being said, the 49ers would still be wise to start talking contract extension with their head coach sooner rather than later. Harbaugh is currently the 3rd highest paid coach in his own division as Pete Carroll and Jeff Fisher each make 7 million per season. Harbaugh should be worth at least that, if not more, considering the early success he has had. The Saint’s Sean Payton is currently the highest paid coach in the NFL at 8 million per year.
So the bottom line on all of this Harbaugh to Texas talk? I think the coach said it best himself…
