Well, it’s finally happened. After they vetoed a trade because of a failed physical, the 49ers have officially acquired cornerback Eric Wright. He was signed to a one-year deal and was placed on the non-football injury/illness list.
“We are pleased to welcome Eric to the 49ers organization and look forward to his contributions,” said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. “Eric is currently tending to a personal matter and he will join the team as soon as possible.”
Wright is still facing possible DUI charges after an incident in Los Angeles. Baalke insists that the 49ers vetoing the previous trade for Wright had nothing to do with that pending case.
“I’d ask you guys to do your due diligence as well and find out the facts surrounding it,” said Baalke, who did not divulge those facts. “And I think when you did that, that particular incident in and of itself – certainly we were aware of it, certainly it’s a red flag. But I don’t think what’s being reported is really the facts around it.”
