49ers To Get Two Picks From KC For Alex Smith

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex D. Smith (11) sits up after he was sacked by Seattle Seahawks DT Rocky Bernard early in the first quarter of the Seahawks-49ers game. Smith was taken out shortly thereafter.

The Niners deal to trade Alex Smith is with the Chiefs, though the deal won’t be announced until the start of the new NFL year on March 12th.

The Chiefs gave up a second-round pick (No. 34 overall) this year and a conditional pick in the 2014 draft.

The Niners now have 12 picks in this year’s draft and they are expected to receive a few more when the league announces the compensatory picks at the owner’s meetings March 17-20.

49ers safety Donte Whitner was one of the first to weigh in on the announcement by tweeting: “Good luck to Mr. Alex Smith. I know you’ll do great under Andy Reid in KC. The ultimate pro!”
