Niners fans – are you believing now?
It’s understandable if it’s taken you till now to jump on the bandwagon, but after Sunday night’s win over the Lions – get on board. The train is getting full.
Sunday night in their home opener, the Niners were once again very good on defense and solid on offense, topping the Lions 27-19 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
San Fran got going on their second offensive play when they flipped the ball to Mario Manningham for a 29-yard gain on an end-around. The play lit a fire for the offense, as the drive led to a 21-yard scoring pass from Alex Smith to Vernon Davis to give the Niners a quick 7-0 lead.
Jason Hanson was most of the offense for the Lions, has he hit four field goals to make it at one point a 20-12 game in favor of the 49ers in the fourth quarter.
The Niners put the game away when Smith hit Davis with a 23-yard TD for the pairs second hookup of the night with 3:04 left to make it a 27-12 lead for San Fran.
The Lions got a late garbage TD from Matthew Stafford to tight end Brandon Pettigrew to wrap up the scoring at 27-19. Stafford ended the night going 19-for-32 for 230 yards with one TD and one pick.
San Fran took advantage all night of the Lions defensive backfield, as they went after safety John Wendling, who was subbing for the injured Louis Delmas, and it worked.
Smith was solid for the Niners, going 20-for-31 for 226 yards with two picks and he didn’t throw a pick. The Lions were no match for the better Niners, who again are proving they are better than a lot of people think.
