The San Francisco 49ers have gotten the madness under way a little early tonight, as they have agreed to a one year deal with wide receiver Randy Moss. Yes, you read that right, Randy Moss.
Moss may have taken last season off, but I think it was more to get healthy and prepare for one more run at a title.
While the deal can’t be officially be completed until tomorrow, this is huge for the 49ers, who were in great need of a veteran receiver who could stretch the field and teach the young guys the little things they need to know to reach the next level. Coach Jim Harbaugh must have seen something he really liked out of Moss while he was going back to his QB days and throwing to the former Viking.
With the club working on a deal with QB Alex Smith, this really makes the team look like a return to the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl a real possibility. While the last time Moss was on a field wasn’t very memorable, don’t expect a lackluster performance from him this season, but don’t expect what you saw in 2007 either.
This is just the start of free agency madness and I don’t believe the 49ers are at all done making this team better, and preparing for a title run.
