49ers Release Second-Year LB Thaddeus Gibson

The Niners have said “so long” to former OSU Buckeye LB Thaddeus Gibson.

Euclid native and former OSU Buckeye Thaddeus Gibson was released by the 49ers on Monday. Gibson, who spent a portion of last season with the team, was listed as a third string linebacker in the 49ers’ preseason depth chart behind Parys Haralson and Aldon Smith. With the recent addition of Antawn Applewhite, Gibson’s fate with the team has been sealed. Applewhite is expected to replace Gibson. Gibson, 23, is entering his second year in the NFL after being drafted in the fourth round by the Steelers.
