Santa Clara City Manager Opposes Montana Deal

According to the San Jose Business Journal, Santa Clara City Manager Jennifer Sparacino opposes a request by Hall of Fame 49ers quarterback Joe Montana to lease two properties next to the team’s planned stadium.

On Tuesday, Montana and his business partners, a group that includes former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr., will pitch their plan to build a hotel, restaurant, and sports bar.

Sparacino seeks bids for the properties, a process that would reportedly end Montana’s interest in the properties.

“A competitive developer process would ensure the city realizes its highest and best value for its long-term ground leases,” Sparacino wrote to the City Council. “With the surety of a stadium project, developers and development financing would know that a major anchor tenant, drawing over 1 million attendees a year, would be across the street.”

  1. Someone tell this dude it’s JOE MONTANA. Doesn’t matter about competitive bids, people will come. Joe Montana is a major anchor tenant because it’s JOE MONTANA!
