Sports Shorts – Bay Area Props

Always a fan and never a player… but a few days back I got to hang with a player. Bay Area star and former Stanford Cardinals running back Brian Allen headed up a physical training ‘boot camp’ and it was intense. Allen is the 7th leading rusher in Stanford University history. He had a phenomenal Sr year in 2001 with 184 runs for 940 yards and 9 TDs (not to mention receiving and kick return yards). He is also a former member of your SF 49ers.

Now, I am not necessarily the type of person who is invited to a pro athlete’s camp, but Allen turns out to be a friend of a friend. As a result, I was treated to a (near) NFL workout experience.

Ok, I am exaggerating slightly, not because of Allen ability to bring it, but more because of what he had to work with. 6 people (5 men and 1 woman) in average shape and possessing average athletic ability. The work out consisted of everything you would imagine from a NFL work out just short of slamming each other to the ground.

Running butt kicks, side to side running while bending (don’t you love my sports terminology), bear crawls, sprints, an insane amount of running, and an abdominal work out too painful and scary to describe to you here. Seeing Brian running from one trainee to another while constantly coaching and inspiring, I couldn’t help to not be impressed. Physically, this guy is still on a whole different level than the rest of us.

Turns out Brian will be doing more and more of these camps right here in the SF Bay Area. Keep your eyes open and maybe you can join in on these great work outs.
