A couple of Niners ILB’s are wearing casts, as both Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes will be one-armed when they play the Chargers on Thursday night. Spikes joked that he might not be as effective in picking off passes, as he has two picks in the last three games.
“Might break the interception streak,” said Spikes. “It means I have to practice snagging with one hand, the left hand.”
Both Spikes and Willis won’t say exactly what is up with their conditions, only to say they are “banged up.” Both were hurt in the teams 41-20 win over the Seahawks that got them to within a game of both the Hawks and Rams in the West.
Chargers QB Philip Rivers knows how good both the 49ers LB’s are.
“I’ll tell you what, those guys have to be two of the better inside linebackers in the league,” Rivers said in a conference call Tuesday. “They’re just inside run-game pluggers and all that, but they both run very well. They can play sideline to sideline. They’re complete players. I think that’s where it starts.”
We will see how much the casts hurt them, and how well they can go with them when they take the field on Thursday night.
