Gore’s Hip Won’t Need Surgery

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore’s hip fracture is less severe than first feared and will not require surgery, 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said Wednesday. Singletary also does not think Gore’s season-ending injury will have an impact on next season, a belief that is seconded by a local orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine.

“As far as I know, from talking to the doctors, it’s a smaller fracture than initially looking at it,” Singletary said. “So that’s a wonderful thing. We will wait a few weeks and check it again and see how the progression is and just kind of go from there. “But he should be fine.”
