As you guys may have heard by now, Frank Gore will miss the remainder of the season with a fractured hip.
This is a real blow if you ask me. While Westbrook and Dixon filled in really nicely in Gore’s absence last night, I don’t think think they can replace Gore’s leadership and presence in the huddle. That is not a cheap shot at neither Westbrook or Dixon, but Gore has been a constant in the Niners offense and often carried this team on his back.
This should be no excuse for the Niners to tank it the coming weeks. For this offense to be successful, the runing game needs to be alive and well. Obviously, Westbrook and Dixon will get increased reps this week in practice and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod to start this Sunday against the Packers’ 18th-ranked run defense.
