Davis and Niners come to terms on a five-year extension

The Niners have wrapped up tight end Vernon Davis, as the team has given him a five-year contract extension. The TE enters his fifth season with SF, he led the team with 78 receptions last year for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns, which tied Antonio Gates’ NFL mark for the position.

Davis made his first Pro Bowl in 2009 and tied for the league lead in touchdown catches with Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald. Overall, Davis has 181 receptions for 2,097 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career.

A first-round draft pick in 2006, Davis started eight games as a rookie and has been a regular, when healthy, ever since. He also is a team captain.
