Niners Use RB’s Westbrook and Gore at the Same Time

The Niners tried something a little different in camp, as Jimmy Raye had two RB’s in the game at the same time Friday, Frank Gore and Brian Westbrook.

Perhaps showing that he is open to using different personnel groupings, 49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye had Frank Gore and Brian Westbrook line up together in the backfield for the first time since Westbrook’s arrival on Monday. Gore and Westbrook were paired for about a half-dozen snaps. The 49ers had their final scheduled open practice of training camp. The 75-minute practice featured one of Alex Smith’s sharper showings. Between 7-on-7 and 11-on-11, Smith completed his first 16 passing attempts against the team’s reserve defenders.
