Reports are indicating that second-year RB Glen Coffee does not plan on continuing his football career and plans on retiring.
Glen Coffee issued the following statement:
“This has been a tough decision for me to make, but at this time in my life I feel it is best for me that I move on from football. I appreciate what the 49ers, my teammates and coaches have done for me, and I wish them a blessed season and all the best in the future.”
This is obviously legitimate as the man himself has stated that he is done with the sport.
Coffee, was competing for the second string job at his position, and it was widely believed he had a real good chance of taking hold of that spot. Anthony Dixon has presumably moved up one spot in the depth chart and expect Michael Robinson to come in third.
As to why Coffee decided to hang it up is unknown. Coffee is only 23 years old and one would think that he has a great future ahead of him.
The third round pick of the 2009 NFL Draft rushed for 227 yards and 1 touchdown last season.
It will be interesting to see what the 49ers do regarding his abrupt departure.
