Rookie Mays Quickly Moving up the Depth Chart

The Sac Bee says that as of right now, Taylor Mays is making a quick push to move up the depth chart:

When spring drills began in May, 49ers second-round pick Taylor Mays was running with the third-team defense. Today he was solidly with the second. He appears to have leapfrogged both Reggie Smith and Curtis Taylor. Both of them played next to Mays at different times this afternoon and also rotated in with third-string safety Chris Maragos. “He is making good progress,” head coach Mike Singletary said of Mays. “The thing that we’re trying to do is give him as much exposure as we can and see how he responds to it.”

  1. If this kid can start by the first game. it gives us athleticism-speed to eliminate anything over the middle.
