With the 16th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Julian Peterson, linebacker out of Michigan State University. Peterson broke a streak of terrible first round draft picks by the 49ers. Even though he did not remain with the 49ers for as long as he should have, his production for the team was appreciated. In 2006, Peterson bolted for the rival Seattle Seahawks and was actually a key member of their defense until his trade to the Detroit Lions in 2009. In his time with San Francisco, Peterson accumulated 394 tackles, 21.5 sacks, 5 interceptions, while making the Pro Bowl twice. He has since made three other Pro Bowls.
