With the 25th pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Dexter Carter, a running back out of Florida State University. Carter would spend 7 seasons with the 49ers, and even had a cup of coffee in the 1995 season with the Jets. A career backup on offense, Carter saw frequent playing times on special teams; scoring 2 touchdowns a piece on punt and kick returns. Carter rushing totals were 247 attempts for 1,042 yards and 5 touchdowns. He added 656 yards and 2 touchdowns on the receiving end. Players like Carter are surely valuable, but are worth no more than low round picks. Carter coached running backs at Florida State between 2007 and 2010, getting released when Jimbo Fisher took over the head coaching position.
