1987 (25th selection)
With their 2nd pick in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers would select Terrence Flagler, a running back out of Clemson University. The 49ers would miss on that pick as Flagler had no type of success in the league. Flagler would play five seasons with the 49ers and Phoenix Cardinals, totaling 237 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 56 rushing attempts. Flagler actually fared relatively better on the receiving end, catching 33 passes for 366 yards and a touchdown. The only positive that I find with this pick is that the 49ers were actually able to afford messing up some draft picks as they still managed to win on a consistent basis even with some rather poor choices from their drafts. Anyways, here is hoping that if the Niners get the chance to select a certain running back from Clemson University the next few days, he can put up Flagler’s rushing totals and receiving totals from his career in just a couple of games.
