Niners draft history- 1970

With the 9th pick in the 1970 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Cedrick Hardman, defensive end, out of the University of North Texas. Hardman started his freshman year in college as a defensive back, and then switched to linebacker in his sophomore season before making the permanent shift to defensive end in his junior and senior years. In his final collegiate year, Hardman recorded an astounding 38 sacks. Hardman would spend 12 seasons in the Bay Area, two of them with the Oakland Raiders. In his 10 seasons with the 49ers, Hardman unofficially recorded 106 ½ sacks with the 49ers (they were not officially recorded for defensive players up until 1982), currently a team record. He was a two-time Pro-Bowl selection (1971, 1975). He would win Super Bowl XV with the Oakland Raiders. Hardman, a native of Houston, now resides in California.
