Niners draft history – 1965

Having the second overall pick in the 1965 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Ken Willard, running back/fullback, out of the University of North Carolina. Willard spent all, but one of his 10 seasons in the NFL with the 49ers (played for St.Louis Cardinals in 1974). Willard made the Pro Bowl in the 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969 seasons. Willard also fared well in the passing game, as he would put up respectable receiving numbers. He rushed for 5930 yards and 45 touchdowns, and had 273 receptions for 2156 yards and 16 touchdowns on the receiving end. In his lone season with the Cardinals in 1974, Willard did not make much of an impact. The Richmond, VA native is now enshrined in the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
