Today’s SF Chronicle talks about a talk last night that coach Mike Singletary had with 49’ers fans:
On Monday night, though, the 49ers put Mike Singletary in front of a crowd of season-ticket holders, and he brought back the heat. The event was billed as a State of the Franchise address, and Singletary shared the stage with three executives: 49ers President Jed York, chief operating officer Andy Dolich and general manager Scot McCloughan.
But the show belonged to the coach, the man who took over a listless 2-5 team and turned it into a dynamic 7-9 finisher. “It’s really hard to sit here tonight and be composed,” he said at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center. “I’m not a politician. I’m not really good at this.” He was trying to answer a question from the audience about his commitment to smash-mouth football and the defense’s lingering tendency to hold back. He summed up his philosophy by saying “Physical with an F,” and the crowd roared.
