Turnovers, Brandon Jacobs Help Giants Paste 49ers 29-17

I think it is safe to say that the New York Giants played the complete game, scoring-wise, on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers; running back Brandon Jacobs scored twice and quarterback Eli Manning threw for a score, allowing New York to enjoy a 29-17 win over San Francisco at East Rutherford, NJ.

While the Giants played a very good game in their own right, the 49ers played sloppily themselves, fumbling the ball four times and turning the ball over 3 times.  New York led from start to finish, although they had some sloppy moments of their own as San Francisco linebacker Manny Lawson blocked New York placekicker John Carney’s field goal attempt and cornerback Nate Clements returned it 74 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Giants’ lead to 24-17. But moments later, Carney would make a 48-yard FG then the Giants defense stiffened up as they sacked O’Sullivan for a safety, putting them up for good 29-17.

O’Sullivan had a mediocre outing this Sunday as he went 16-of-28 for 256 yards with a score and 2 interceptions while the Giants’ Manning was mediocre as well, going 16-of-31 for 161 yards and a passing TD. San Francisco’s rushing attack – or lack thereof – was led by, of all people, O’Sullivan as he ran for 27 yards while RB Frank Gore rushed for only 11 yards on 11 carries; he also caught 3 passes for 50 yards. New York was led by Brandon Jacobs with 69 yards on 17 carries and 2 TD’s while Ahmad Bradshaw added 28 yards on 8 rushes.

Josh Morgan led all 49ers receivers with 86 yards on 5 receptions and a TD while Isaac Bruce chipped in with 47 yards on 3 catches. RB Derrick Ward led the Giants receiving effort with 50 yards on 3 receptions while Plaxico Burress, while only adding 24 receiving yards, scored a TD. San Francisco (2-5) hope to stop their current slide as they return home to host the Seattle Seahawks on October 26 while New York (5-1) have a tough assignment next week as they travel to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
