I haven’t been keeping apprised of the Niners proposed Santa Clara stadium. The team has officially begun a review process for the 68,500 stadium, which would expand to 75,000 in the event of hosting a Super Bowl. All the Niners had to do was write a $14,113 check.
The stadium is far from a done deal, however, as the Niners have to receive consent from a nearby amusement park before they can absolutely set their sights on a particular piece of land.
The process is exciting in the fact that a new stadium seems more real than ever, yet it is bittersweet that it is in Santa Clara. After all, these are the San Francisco 49ers, not Santa Clara 49ers. But as often happens with other teams, their stadium will be far removed from the geographical region the team represents.
