The Niners are set to get a visit from now free agent linebacker Takeo Spikes, who last week was let go by the Eagles. Spikes has bounced around since he came into the league as the first round pick of the Bengals back in 1998. He played with them until 2003, when he signed a big deal with the Bills. Last season Buffalo moved him to the Eagles, and he was let go after playing in 14 games, getting 85 tackles and one sack.
At 6-2, 242 pounds, Spikes’ better playing days are behind him, but if the Niners can get him for a decent price, he can come in and contribute in certain situations. In his career, Spikes has played in 140 games, putting up 969 total tackles, 22.5 sacks, 12 picks and three TD’s off interceptions. His best season came back in 2001 with the Bengals, as he had 6 sacks. We shall see if San Fran overpays for Spikes.
