ESPN’s Mike Sando says Mike Martz is the key to the 49ers offense this season…

Pro Football Weekly’s “Whispers” column explains its Niners sources are happy with running back Michael Robinson’s four-year contract extension. The team is enamored with his special teams-ability and is excited he is becoming a team leader…

San Francisco Chronicle “Niner Insider” Kevin Lynch reports that Niners GM Scot McCloughan stated the team is finished with the free-agent market until the summer.

In an interview with Lynch, McCloughan states that Manny Lawson, Parys Haralson and Tully Banta-Cain give the team enough of a pass rush presence.

Furthermore, McCloughan says the offense will be “twice as good.”…

You can find more of McCloughan’s comments in this article by the Chroncile’s John Crumpacker.

Mark Purdy of the San Jose Mercury News doesn’t share McCloughlan’s optimism

Daniel Brown of the Mercury News identifies how the team can improve its offensive line

NFLDraftBlitz.com picks Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly for the 49ers. Here is their explanation:

Kelly will experience a great fall after his combine. He was outshined by bigger, quicker receivers and will need a great pro day to silence his doubters. The 49ers are desperate for help at Wide Receiver, even after the signing of Isaac Bruce, and they will do all that they can to put Alex Smith in position to succeed in what could be his last chance.”

  1. How can a coach be the “key” to a team’s offensive success?

Is it me, or did I hear the same thing about this guy in Detroit being the “key”?

Is the “Martzster” going to suit up and play QB or WR?

Stack: What do you think about Isaac wearing Jerry Rice’s legendary #80? RICE has given permission for him to wear it! Classy, Humble move by Jerry.

Also, I really enjoy reading your articles and like what your doing with the site/NFLGridironGab.com in general – Keep up the good work. It’s great to have you, and your partner in crime T-Gooch, as part of the “winning” formula with the GAB.

I wonder when the first “Bay Area debate” of who’s team is better is going to air and if it does I want to hear it “live” on Audio!
