Now that Issac Bruce is on the open market, will the 49’ers take a look at bringing the 35-year-old in for a visit? They should, as with now Mike Martz running the offense and the Niners not exactly stocked with big name wide outs, Bruce would be a welcome addition to the roster. Plus they could sell him on the fact they will play the Rams twice a season, meaning he can gain a measure of revenge not only once, but twice per season.
Bruce is coming off a season where he had 55 catches for 733 yards. He leaves the Rams third on the NFL’s career list for receiving yards (14,070), trailing only Jerry Rice (22,895) and Tim Brown (14,934). Bruce also finished the season with 942 catches, ranking sixth on the NFL’s all-time list. He is a four-time Pro Bowl wide out, and caught the game-winning TD from Kurt Warner to lead the Rams to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV.
The wide out was due a total of $5 mil in 2008 from the Rams, two of which was due in the roster bonus, the other three in base salary. There was rumblings weeks ago he would welcome in San Francisco if he was released, as the Niners have a need for a quality veteran wide out, and with Martz running the offense there, San Fran will right away become a place where Bruce may look at to continue his career.
