Will the Niners Make a Run at Lance Briggs?

Pro Football Weekly is reporting in its weekly online “Whispers” column that the 49ers might have interest in soon-to-be unrestricted free agent linebacker Lance Briggs. PFW’s team sources contend that the 49ers are thinking of switching Briggs from outside linebacker, his position with the Chicago Bears the past five seasons, to inside linebacker, thus replacing incumbent Derek Smith. Briggs is a native of nearby Sacramento, so the interest could be mutual.
