Mike Nolan’s job as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers appears safe, for now. The “San Francisco Chronicle” reports Nolan was at the team’s Santa Clara headquarters yesterday with his assistants and said he expects to remain as head coach. As the 49ers were struggling through another disappointing season, team owner John York announced that Nolan would be relieved of his day-to-day football operations duties and a new general manager would be brought in for the 2008 season. The Niners wrapped up the regular season this past Sunday with a 20-7 loss in Cleveland to finish 5-and-11.
