Nolan: “Dilfer Will Start This Sunday”

No surprise here.  Trent Dilfer will once again get the start at quarterback this Sunday as the San Francisco 49ers play host to the Minnesota Vikings.  With starter Alex Smith still recovering from a shoulder injury, head coach Mike Nolan came right out with the information yesterday on the team’s website saying, “Dilfer will start the game.  He’s our quarterback.  His shoulders are a little bit sore, but he will be our starter for the game.”  On the rumors that Nolan will make Dilfer the starter next season as well, Nolan said “That’s just somebody reading into something that I haven’t said.  Let’s not go there right now because that’s not what I’m saying.  What I’m saying is, even when Alex was the quarterback, I support the guys that are playing and doing their jobs.  As a healthy quarterback, Trent gives us our best chance to win.”
