The news on 9’ers QB Alex Smith is that he is getting better, and is starting to look ahead at the shot at being back under center when the team takes on the New York Giants on October 21st. Smith extended his range Monday to throw 25 yards, and stated that if can start throwing more without the pain, he feels he can get back on the field sooner rather than later. “I pushed it back a little bit,” he said. “I was throwing about 25 yards. I wasn’t gunning them in there. It definitely felt better than yesterday.”
Head coach Mike Nolan stated Monday that he would have had Smith in uniform as the No. 3 quarterback Sunday if he had not declared him out on Friday, pointing to Smith getting close to being back on the field sooner than many thought. “I could have used him to hand the ball off” in an emergency, Nolan said.
