LB Lawson Out for Remainder of 07 Season

Injuires have cut short the season of 49?ers linebacker Manny Lawson. The team announced on Thursday that Lawson will be missing the remainder of the 2007 season. after he tore a ligament in his left knee on a noncontact play in practice, and even though it did not look all that bad at first, the ACL tear will keep him on the sidelines for the final 14 games. “I was really looking forward to doing big things this year for my team,” said Lawson, “The hardest thing is just knowing I won’t be able to be out there practicing and playing in games with the guys.”

Lawson was a big part of the 49?ers defense, as he played the strong side, doing double duty covering the tight ends as well as rushing the passer. At 6-foot-5, he has the ability to do both, and the 49?ers will miss him greatly starting this Sunday at Pittsburgh. As it stands, Lawson was second on the team with 14 tackles. “Manny had done a nice job the first two games,” Nolan said. “It’s a disappointment that he got injured, but at the same time it’s a team that wins games, not just an individual. I think our guys will rally around the position, and we’ll be fine.”
