Field at Monster Park Renamed Bill Walsh Field

The 49’ers have named the field at Monster Park in honor of former head coach, Bill Walsh.  The Hall of Fame coach was honored today in a public ceremony today at the home of the 49’ers, and the announcement was made that the field will now be known as “Bill Walsh Field”.  Walsh passed away on July 30th at the age of 75.  He was the mind behind the 49’ers Super Bowl runs in the mid to late 80’s, and is credited with creating the now famous “west coast offense.”

In 10 seasons coaching the 9’ers, Walsh was 102-63-1.  He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton in 1993.  “So to Bill Walsh today on Bill Walsh Field, we say that we will always remember, we thank you for the gift of hope and opportunity you restored to this great city,” United States Senator Dianne Feinstein said. “San Francisco, you are a great team and you will see glory days again.”
